The fort has an ingenious drainage system called the ghut nali which allows for the easy drainage of rainwater away from the fort in all four directions of the fort. Over the years, construction activities and building of new roads has greatly reduced its effectiveness. Recognising the challenges faced by residents of Jaisalmer Fort during the government's drainage system renovation project, I Love Jaisalmer raised awareness through the District Empowered Committee. I Love Jaisalmer also consulted heritage architects to review the plan. They identified issues in the design and execution, prompting the Rajasthan Government to implement necessary modifications.
The construction lacked proper supervision and the labourers were unskilled. Responsible departments were uninformed about internal issues. The foundation conducted meetings and wrote numerous letters to those in charge. Additionally, we invited the Former Director of RUIDP, heritage architects, and conservationists to investigate the matter. RUIDP assumed responsibility for revitalising the deteriorating drainage system at Jaisalmer Fort. Additionally, plans were underway to install underground infrastructure for telephone, water, and electricity lines.
